Latics Held To Draw

It finished goalless at Boundary Park as Latics extended their unbeaten run to seven games.

The result leaves Oldham Athletic on 51 points, five points clear of the relegation places with three games to play.

After a quiet opening to the game, it was Latics that dominated possession.

The first real chance came on 20 minutes as Jonson Clarke-Harris, who was playing against his former side, was fouled on the edge of the area. The striker picked himself up and smashed the free kick against the post with the goalkeeper beaten.

Danny Philliskirk had Latics' next chance five minutes later as he tried a cheeky back-heel which almost found a way past Joe Murphy, but the ball fell the wrong side of the post.

It was a midfield battle for large parts of the first half with neither side threatening either goalkeeper.

Gary Harkins was posing a threat on the left-hand side and just after the half hour mark, he found space but fired high and wide.

Coventry had their first chance of the half just before the break. Callum Wilson broke into the area but his deflected shot could not find a way past Paul Rachubka.

Latics started the second half brightly as Philliskirk worked a shot for himself from the kick off but it the ball deflected wide.

With the home side pressing more and more, David Worrall crossed for substitute James Dayton but the winger headed into the ground and the ball looped over the crossbar.

Worrall was allowed plenty of space on the right hand side and only minutes later, his cross caused Murphy problems but Charlie MacDonald could not guide the ball over the line.

With Latics going in search of the winning goal, they were almost caught on the counter attack. John Fleck raced on to a through ball but Rachubka stood tall and saved with his feet.

Both sides had chances to win it in the final minutes of the game. Worrall's free kick evaded everybody whilst Mark Marshall fired over in the final seconds as the game finished goalless.
