Baker, McSheffrey are Sky Blues' dangermen
Robbie Simpson is relishing his first playing return to former club Coventry City.Since leaving the Sky Blues in 2009, Simpson has been back to the Ricoh Arena but not as a player.
Simpson believes the key to success for Latics tomorrow could be their ability to stop the service to the front men.
He has identified midfield pair Carl Baker, who has already scored 10 goals, and Gary McSheffrey as the dangermen.
Simpson explained: "Baker is their most creative player and somebody who is good on the ball. Most of Coventry's play goes through him.
"McSheffrey has a great left foot and is also a creative player.
"If we can stop those two providing service to striker Leon Clarke, we have a chance."
Simpson believes Clarke, a former Latics' loanee, is a more than adequate replacement for David McGoldrick whose loan from Nottingham Forest has ended.
McGoldrick, who scored 17 goals in 25 appearances for the Sky Blues, has since been sold to Ipswich Town.
Clarke already has scored twice in three appearances since completing a move from Charlton Athletic and Simpson says he is of a similar pedigree to McGoldrick.
Simpson has great memories of his time with Coventry including making his full debut at Old Trafford where they defeated Manchester United in the Carling Cup. He also played Chelsea in the quarter finals of the same tournament.
He added that it was great playing at the Ricoh Arena saying it is good enough to grace the Premier League.
Simpson said: "It is a great stage to play football though and were Coventry ever to get back to the Premier League, it would be one of the best grounds.
"The trouble is, when only half full, the atmosphere can be dead.
"Playing at the ground also lifts opponents and makes them try even harder."
