Rooney moves back to SPL

Latics and Adam Rooney have agreed to release the striker from his contract to allow him to return to the SPL.  The striker had 18 months left on his contract at Boundary Park but the 'mutual agreement' allows him a return to Scotland with Aberdeen.

Rooney, who had been on loan at Swindon Town from Birmingham City, had agreed a deal to join the Wiltshire club but the club's new owners scuppered the deal, and he in turn signed for Latics in the summer of 2013, scoring his first goals for the club against Port Vale at Boundary Park, grabbing two as Latics won 3-1 in August.

The 25-year-old was believed to be a target for his former Inverness boss Terry Butcher, now at Hibernian. Rooney having had a very successful spell under the former England skipper, notching 52 goals in three seasons in his spell with the Highlands club.

All at Boundary Park wish Adam well in his future career.
