Team of the Week

23 February 2013

Brendon Bees at Boundary Park

Brendon Bees under-10's are the Oldham Athletic Community Trust's 'Team of the Week' at Boundary Park for this afternoon's npower League One match against Portsmouth.

They are a well-established club which was founded by the late Wilf Lomax in the early seventies.

Known locally as 'The Bees,' they usually play in their trade mark black and yellow kit, or their new away kit in black and orange which long-term sponsor Marick helped to pay for.

In 2010, the club became an FA Charter Standard Development club.

The team manager/coach John Phelan played for The Bees himself as a boy, which was more years ago than what he cares to remember.

Most of the current team have been together for several years, some of them from as young as five years old.

The team play in the East Manchester Junior Football League which is a very competitive league and last season they won the league and cup double and were promoted to the First Division.

It was a difficult start to the season, after the highs of last season, but the boys showed their grit and determination and have progressed well this season and are prepared for the change of going from seven-a-side to nine-a -side next season.

The Bees will be performing on the Boundary Park pitch at half-time.
