New Latics' manager

18 March 2013

Lee Johnson appointment confirmed

Latics have confirmed Lee Johnson as their new manager.

The 31-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Boundary Park club.

Johnson, the youngest manager of any of the 92 League clubs, was the outstanding candidate from 120 applicants impressing Chairman Simon Corney and the Board of Directors.

In a career spanning 468 first-team appearances and 40 goals, the two longest spells were at Yeovil Town and Bristol City, both when his father Gary was manager.

Johnson helped Yeovil win promotion to the Football League and then to League One before joining Scottish side Hearts.

He also starred for Bristol City helping them win promotion to the Championship.

Latterly Johnson played for Kilmarnock and he set up the winning goal as they beat Celtic 1-0 in the 2012 final of the Scottish League Cup.
