Johnson's transfer plans

There won't be an influx of four or five players - manager

Lee Johnson insists there won't be a massive influx of new players at Latics before next Thursday's transfer deadline for emergency loan signings.

Latics’ new manager isn't planning a major overhaul of either his playing or backroom staff.

Johnson (pictured) said: "I have a few spinning plates as I like to call them, and there are a few things going on.

"At the same time I have a lot of trust in this squad, even though we have only have one game and a couple of training sessions.

"I am trying to assess everyone but, at the moment, I am thinking about getting the best out of this group with one, may be two new players depending on how Saturday's game at Shrewsbury goes.

"There won't be an influx of four or five players, even though there a number who are willing to come here."

Johnson added he has been taken aback by the interest in becoming his No 2.

He said: "There are an awful lot of people who want to come here, and that is proving difficult because they all have their qualities.

"It is nice knowing that a lot of people want to come and work for me."

Johnson added he has been impressed by the backroom staff he has inherited and the way in which they have immediately gelled.

He said: "We have some progressive young people who are very interested in improving themselves which is what I like.

"We also have the experience of Tony Philliskirk and at the moment we are bouncing off each other really well.

"I don't want to rush things because it is such an important appointment. And for the dynamic of the group, he will have to be a really good coach who will spend a lot of time with the young players coming through."
