David signs 12-month deal
Local lad David Mellor has signed a new 12-month contract for Latics. The 19-year-old (pictured) will be remaining at Boundary Park for the 2013/14 season.
Mellor, who has made 31 first-team appearances for Latics in the last two seasons, has featured prominently in the plans of Lee Johnson having fallen out of favour in the latter part of Paul Dickov's reign as manager.
The former Crompton House pupil, who still lives in Shaw, was a junior at Manchester United.
He joined Latics after being released by the Reds aged 16.
Mellor scored on his first-team debut in a win at Scunthorpe United in August 2011 and played 24 games that season, mainly at left back.
Earlier in the season just ended Mellor and Kirk Millar were both loaned to Evo-Stik League, premier division side Chorley.
Mellor forced his way back into the side when Johnson was appointed manager, playing in the centre of midfield.
