We need to play the moment and not the history of clubs - Johnson
Lee Johnson believes Latics ought not to be fazed by the fact that League One appears to be the toughest division for a number of years.League One contains the likes of Wolves, Bristol City, Peterborough, Sheffield United and Coventry City.
Manager Johnson (pictured) said: "It will be a strong league, but sometimes you get caught up with the history of clubs rather than it being 11 players against 11.
"We need to play the moment and not the history of clubs."
Johnson added the day of the release of the fixtures is always an exciting time.
"When you see the fixtures, the new season suddenly becomes real," he continued.
And Johnson says he was immediately drawn to the Bristol City fixtures because of his great affinity having played for them for five years.
He said: "Obviously I looked at the first game which is at Stevenage which is a good one to start with.
"I then went for Boxing Day and Sheffield United away is a great fixture. I always loved playing at Bramall Lane and that might tempt me to do so again!"
And as to which teams will be in the mix at the end of the season, Johnson continued: "I think everybody knows who the big hitters ought to be, but that isn't always the case.
"I expect the likes of Wolves, Bristol City, Preston and MK Dons to be up there.
"There are usually one or two others who come out of the woodwork like Yeovil did last season."
