Debut goal for MacDonald as Latics draw

Charlie MacDonald scored a goal on his debut to help earn Latics a 2-2 draw in their opening pre-season friendly against top Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest.

The striker (pictured) hit an equaliser with 21 minutes left as Latics came from behind to earn a deserved share of the spoils in a highly competitive match.

Momar N'Diaye came on at the restart, but after two minutes the Senegalese striker left the field on a stretcher after sustaining what appeared an injury to his right knee.

Latics made a lively start to the second period as newly-signed MacDonald shot narrowly wide and Glenn Belezika saw a header drift just wide of the upright.

But it was Dinamo who took the lead for the first time in the match after an hour after a mistake by Belezika allowed Marius Alexe to round keeper Robbie Thompson and score from the tightest of angles.

It was the sort of finish which had led to the striker being linked with a move to both Liverpool and Fulham.

Thompson pulled off a decent save to claw out a header from Dragos Grigore and prevent Dinamo from extending their lead.

Latics almost equalised when Cliff Byrne's header from James Dayton's corner flashed just wide.

Latics made it 2-2 with 21 minutes left when MacDonald marked his first appearance with a goal, a superb finish from the edge of the box as he fired low to the left of keeper Kristijan Naumovski.

There was a double substitution with 15 minutes left when Joe Cooper and Joel Coleman replaced Belezika and Thompson respectively.
