City draw frustrates Dayton

3 November 2013

I feel as though we were robbed, says James

James Dayton was still disappointed today that Latics didn't come away from Bristol City with victory in their Sky Bet League 1 fixture.

The winger (pictured), whose late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw, said: "I still feel annoyed that we didn't come away with all three points.

"I feel as though we were robbed and hard done by as we dominated the majority of the game.

"Considering Bristol City were at home, Mark Oxley only had one or two saves to make which is a measure of how well we defended. Having James Tarkowski back was massive.

"It was just unfortunate we couldn't put away more of our scoring opportunities."

Dayton was happy to score his second goal for Latics, another stunning strike.

"It was a good one, but I would be happy to score ordinary ones. For me, though, it was more about getting the point rather than what I do individually," he explained.

Dayton believes Latics can take confidence and belief from the way they played at Ashton Gate.

He continued: "When you look at the players they have and their budget, it is a measure of how well we did.

"Just look at their bench which included the likes of Marlon Harewood and Sam Baldock while their starting line up contained former England international Nicky Shorey and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who cost Ipswich £1million when they bought him from Arsenal.

"They are top-quality players, but we made them look ordinary which shows how well we played.

"It does give you a lot of confidence and belief, but makes you think if we can do it against Bristol City, why not at Notts County?

"We need to be more consistent and, once we achieve that, we will climb up the table."

Dayton is loving his football with Latics saying manager Lee Johnson gives the players licence to play with freedom and express themselves, both in training and in games.
