Philliskirk leads way to goal

Danny is top scorer in the JPT

Danny Phiiliskirk put the gloss on another impressive display in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with two goals for Latics against Notts County in the Northern Area Quarter Final.

The 22-year-old striker is the competition’s leading scorer with five goals in three matches having also scored a brace against Shrewsbury Town and found the net against Preston North End.

The two goals in midweek made it six for the season for Philliskirk who has overtook Adam Rooney as the club’s leading marksman.

Philliskirk is delighted with his goalscoring exploits in the JPT saying: “That’s five goals in three matches and things could not have gone better in the competition.

“Now I need to take that form into the league where I have managed only one goal.”

Philliskirk believes the thumping 5-1 win in the JPT against Notts County could be a watershed  moment of the season.

He continued: “We have been playing well, but not taken our chances. We were due a win like that, and now we must kick on and take into the next game

“We have a great team here and good squad as you could see from the changes we made against Notts County and how they didn’t affect the team.

“The squad is young and we are still learning. It has been fantastic since I have been here and I have loved every minute of my time with Latics.”
