Under 11's v Bury Under 11's

21 January 2014

Youngsters suffer defeat to local rivals

OLDHAM ATHLETIC FC U11 (3) v Bury FC U11 (6)

Sunday 19th January 2014

1st Quarter

Latics started the game well, passing the ball out from the back at every opportunity and creating some good chances, which they couldn’t score from.  Bury then scored at the back post from a corner. Latics carried on playing some good football but could not get the goal they deserved. The quarter finished 1-0 to Bury

2nd Quarter

Bury were the better team throughout this quarter, playing out from the back and creating opportunities to score. Latics were not pressing Bury enough when out of possession. Bury scored, before Latics grabbed a goal through Niall Dolan. Bury then scored again before the end of the quarter to make the score 3-1.

3rd Quarter

In the 3rd Quarter Latics started the better team and scored when Joe Collins made a great run with the ball before playing to ‘Trialist’, who played Niall Dolan through on goal to finish again. Latics continued to create chances which they could not score from, before Bury scored from a great strike 20 yards out which gave the Latics keeper no chance. The quarter finished 1-1, leaving the game 4-2 to Bury overall.

4th Quarter

In the last quarter Latics continued to play out from the back, which unfortunately cost them 2 goals in quick succession. The first came when Latics lost possession at the back, which resulted in a strike from 20 yards out which again gave the keeper no chance. The second came when a pass back rolled under the keepers foot and into the net. Latics continued to play out from the back to the players credit, and got another goal when the ball fell to Niall Dolan to finish with a great strike into the roof of the net. The quarter finished 2-1 to Bury, and the match finished 6-3 to Bury overall.

Overall Bury were the better team and worked harder to win the ball back. Latics looked to do the right things and play good football throughout the game, but did not work hard enough to win the ball back.

Latics Scorers: Niall Dolan x 3

Under 10's

Latics under 10's were also in action against Bury, although they too were to suffer defeat against their local rivals.

Latics started off the game slow. Bury were stronger in the challenges and seemed to take more care of their passes. Latics went 2-0 down in the first quarter.

Latics reacted very well in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and started to win their individual battles and applied pressure to Bury when they were in possession, looking confident and very positive when on the attack. Latics players looked to get past opposition players in 1v1 situations which was what they had been working on in training.

FT: 4-9
