Latics winger Sidney Schmeltz has had his contract with the club terminated with immediate effect.
The Dutchman, who was signed in the summer, made 20 appearances in all competitions for Latics before being loaned to Shrewsbury Town.Speaking about his exit, Schmeltz said: "My time with the club was amazing from beginning to end. It was a great bunch of lads, good staff and it's a family club. Everyone took care of me and we part on good ways.
"If I'm around, I'll come back here with a smile on my face. I'm now going back to Holland but I'm definitely staying in football. I can't wait to see my little daughter and then I'll see what happens."
Manager Lee Johnson added: "Sidney was a nice character to work with but sadly he didn't make the impact everyone was hoping for.
"I want to thank him for all his efforts during his time with the club and I wish him all the best for the future."
