Manager Lee Johnson is hoping the vocal support can help Latics players overcome a strong Preston North End at the weekend.
The gaffer, who ignited a strong Twitter debate yesterday about the location of Latics supporters at Boundary Park, started off by explaining his reasons as to why he wants to create a good atmosphere. He said: "It was an interesting debate because it stirred a lot of emotions. I just wanted to open it up because I know the players have got to get the fans going but with the stand being down and it being such an important time, I was just seeing what people thought.
"I was pleased with the responses and I know it's a touchy subject but we're doing it for the right reasons. I want to make the match day environment better for the supporters. We want them to be comfortable and get them actively involved in a positive way. That would boost the players and it would give us an advantage."
This came on the back of the loud vocal support at Tranmere Rovers last Saturday and the boss felt his side performed well against the Wirral side.
"I was happy with the performance," stated Johnson, before adding: "The lads were on the front foot and I thought the forward two played well. We played the better football and had the better chances."
"It was good to have Korey Smith back in the side as he made the difference. There is no doubt he is a key player for us and I thought he was excellent. Credit to him and the fitness staff for keeping him fit over that period of time."
Ahead of the Lancashire derby with Preston North End on Saturday, the manager is hoping for a cracking atmosphere to will the players on to victory.
"It's a fantastic game for us," admitted Johnson. "They will bring a lot of supporters which will make for a good atmosphere. The boys respond well to a good atmosphere and I love it when the place is rocking so it should be an exciting match.
"Preston have got stronger since we last played them. They have a solid back four and have two good midfielders in Kilkenny and Keane. They've got threats everywhere and that's why they are up there. It will be a really tough game but our boys will no doubt rise to the challenge and put in a good performance."
