Lee Johnson Previews Crawley Town

20 March 2014

Manager Lee Johnson believes Saturday's clash with Crawley Town will be a tough encounter but is confident of victory.

The manager, who celebrated a year in charge of Latics on Tuesday, admitted the next seven days will prove to be a big test for his players.

He said: "They are all tough games this week but we're up for it. The boys are ready and we're looking forward to it. Everyone is confident that we can get the results needed.

"Crawley are a good side. I went to watch them on Tuesday against Wolves and they were convincing winners. They are another side who have a small squad but been quite lucky with injuries as they haven't had many.

"They've got players that know the division so we will have to be at our best. It's up to us to exploit there weaknesses in what will be a very important game.

"It's a tough game for them as well as to come to Oldham away. When Boundary Park is rocking and we'll make sure it's tough for them."

Both Korey Smith and John-Paul Kissock missed last weekend's 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra and the gaffer admitted both were struggling to recover from their injuries in time for the game.

"Korey is one that we're going to have to wait on," commented Johnson. "It's a recurrence of his earlier injury but we might have to see whether he can just train once a week and then play on the Saturday.

"John Paul is going to be out for a while because he's done something to his hip-flexer. It's a disappointment as I thought he did really well on his debut."

After the club released the statement about the stand change, the manager had his say on the matter.

"Everyone wants one thing and that's the football on the pitch and we want fans to have a good match day experience," stated the 32-year-old. "Them two go hand in hand. It's done for the right reasons and it's certainly not been done to upset people but it's been done to encourage a better match day experience."
