Commercial Department Blog

21 March 2014

Welcome to the first of a fortnightly commercial blog on the official website.

We’ll use this article to keep you up to date with the latest commercial happenings at the club and confirm any new partners or agreements that we have in place, as well as any initiatives we are running.

Looking back at the last two home games, for the visit of Preston we welcomed Craig Cargill as match sponsor. Craig was on his stag do and you may well have seen him in the centre circle pre-match presenting the ball to a somewhat bemused set of match officials. Our programme sponsors were the Behind The Post Crew - a group of 8 supporters from the ZenOffice Chaddy End who treat themselves once a season to hospitality with us, they were also celebrating Simon’s 26th birthday.

For the Rotherham United game we were joined in the O2 Business Suite by two of our major partners; CM Solicitors and George Hill Timber and Building Supplies, as well as matchball sponsors Bekaert.  A good night was had by all, despite the lads slipping to defeat.

We have announced the latest in our series of business networking events. This will be held in association with O2 Business at the Blue Tiffin (Shaw Road) on Thursday, March 27 between 6-8pm. Manager Lee Johnson will be attending, as will Chief Executive Neil Joy. There will be a question and answer session as well as the opportunity to network with our other business partners in a relaxed environment over some food provided by the Blue Tiffin. The event is by invitation only and invites have started to be sent out over the last few days to the businesses we work with. Should you wish to be invited then please contact david.broadbent@oldhamathletic.co.uk

It is around this time that the commercial department starts to look towards next season and securing club partners. A number of our major partners, such as George Hill, Verlin and ZenOffice, are on deals that don’t expire in the summer. We have already started talking to those whose deals are coming to a close to try to secure them for next season and beyond. We do have a couple of major opportunities to get involved with the club next season. The two that stand out are; naming rights of the new North Stand and First team training and warm up kit partner. Both of these opportunities are high profile within the club and indeed the town, offering superb exposure over a 12 month period. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss these options in more detail if you feel that your business could benefit from such a high profile partnership.

Also, a reminder of Jenny’s upcoming charity challenge. As part of the club’s partnership with Prostate Cancer UK, Jenny will be cycling from London to Amsterdam - a distance of 150 miles - though she does not have to swim the bit over the sea! Please have a look at www.justgiving.com/oldham-athletic for details about how you can help.

If you have any questions for the next article about any commercial aspects of the club then please get in touch and we’ll answer some questions on the next blog in two weeks time.
