Jonathan Grounds Previews Leyton Orient

25 March 2014

Latics defender Jonathan Grounds celebrates his 100th appearance for the club tonight in the game with Leyton Orient.

The defender, who signed on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2012, reaches the landmark in tonight's game and admits it's a great personal achievement.

He said: "Luckily I've been lucky with injuries and I've managed to keep myself fit. It's a great achievement for myself but hopefully it will be three points for the team. Coming here two years ago, it isn't something that I'd have imagined but it was something that I needed at the time and I'm happy to be here."

Looking ahead to the game with the O's, the full-back believes Latics were unlucky in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and hopefully the club can pick up from Saturday's performance.

"We've got to take a bit of confidence from our performance here," admitted Grounds. "When we got a draw here, it's probably a game we should have won. Hopefully we can go there on the back of an important win on Saturday and put in a good performance."

With teams around scrapping for points, Grounds, who has played at both full-back and centre half this season, spoke about how the manager's gameplan to pick up vital points in this division.

"The way the manager has set us up in the last couple of games has been that we've been really hard to beat. We've played from a good shape and counter attacked very well so that will be the plan again."
