Johnson: "Important We Didn't Lose"

22 April 2014

Latics boss Lee Johnson was happy with a point from yesterday's 0-0 draw with Coventry City.

Jonson Clarke-Harris smashed an effort against the post in the first half and James Dayton came within inches of opening the scoring for Latics, but his header looped over the crossbar.

Speaking about the draw, the manager said: "It was important we didn't lose the game. I was disappointed we didn't win it because I thought we had the better chances but it had a bit of an end of season type feel to the game.

"It's another clean sheet and we limited them to one opportunity in the match. From a defensive point of view I was very pleased but we probably needed a bit more up front on the day."

Goalkeeper Paul Rachubka denied John Fleck late in the game to preserve the point and Johnson spoke highly of his number one.

"He didn't have anything to do all game but that's a sign of a good goalkeeper when you can stay concentrated until the final whistle," the gaffer stated.

Latics are now five points above Notts County who occupy the last relegation spot and the 32-year-old will not celebrate until his side are mathematically safe.

Johnson added: "I don't think we are safe yet. We are 85% there but anything can happen in football. I'm certainly not one to relax on that because I know there is a lot of football to be played."
