Lockwood: "I Feel Valued Here"

19 May 2014

Latics' veteran defender Adam Lockwood penned a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2014/15 season.

The 32-year-old, who signed during the January transfer window, was instrumental in Latics' resurgence up the table last season.

Lockwood, who scored and was dismissed in the last game of the season against Notts County, is delighted to sign a new deal.

He said: "When I first came to the club, I had an agreement in my contract where if I played enough games we'd talk about a new deal. I enjoyed my time and it's a great club to be at so there is no reason not to stay.

"I feel valued here and I want to give value to the club and be part of its future. My whole family have been made welcome here which is another important thing for me so long may it continue."

The defender picked up two yellow cards during the draw with the Magpies and will miss the opening day of the 2014/15 campaign.

"It's the start of a fresh season and I'm going to miss the first game of it but there are plenty of other games to get going," said Lockwood. "We need to all make sure we're ready to perform on the first game."

The former Yeovil and Doncaster defender jets off to America in the next week but spoke about the importance of keeping up his fitness levels heading into the new season.

"I think it's quite important in the modern game to keep yourself fit throughout the summer. Hopefully I'll come back in pre-season in better shape," commented the defender.

"I'm happy to get everything sorted here and look forward to the future."
