RESULT: Latics Defeat Curzon Ashton

10 July 2014

Two goals each from Jonson Clarke-Harris, Carl Winchester and Rhys Turner helped Latics earn a comfortable 8-1 victory.

A trialist and Genserix Kusunga rounded off the scoring for Latics whilst Jimmy McCartney grabbed a consolation goal in the final minute of the game.

Latics started the better of the two sides with Clarke-Harris showing early signs of intent.

The striker did not take long to open his account for the night as he headed home a Brian Wilson cross on 17 minutes.

One became two minutes later as new recruit Wilson again crossed for Clarke-Harris who volleyed into the top corner to double Latics' lead.

Disaster struck on 24 minutes as Connor Hampson seemed to suffer a horrific leg injury and the youngster remained down for over 20 minutes.

When the game finally restarted, a trialist nodded home Latics' third of the game as the sides went into the break.

Latics made 11 substitutions at half time and it did not take them long to extend their lead.

A corner into the Curzon Ashton box was not dealt with by the goalkeeper and Kusunga fired home from six yards out.

The goalkeeper suffered an embarrassing moment for Latics' fifth goal on 51 minutes as his attempted clearance struck Winchester to make it 5-0.

The Northern Irish under-21 international doubled his tally for the night ten minutes later as he superbly struck from 25 yards into the corner, giving the Curzon Ashton goalkeeper no chance.

Winchester turned provider on 80 minutes as his excellent through ball found the onrushing Turner to make it seven.

Within a minute, Turner prodded home from a yard to make the score 8-0.

Curzon Ashton scored a consolation goal in the final minute of the game through Jimmy McCartney as the game finished 8-1.
