Youth team manager Tony Philliskirk is hoping to kick on from the recent pre-season defeat to Tadcaster Albion as he prepares his youngsters for the new season.
The young Latics were defeated 2-1 against a much older and physical Tadcaster side with Rio Murray grabbing the only goal for the visitors.Despite this, Philliskirk believes the players are heading in the right direction ahead of a trip to Holland at the end of the month.
He said: "We are going over to Manchester United this week for a mini tournament between ourselves, United, Burnley and Rochdale.
"We've also got Scunthorpe coming up and I wanted to play them because they did well last season and I wanted to test our squad.
"We've got a lot to look forward to and a lot of hard work has to be done between now and then but we've been working very hard."
