Assistant manager Tommy Wright is expecting a quick response from the players ahead of tomorrow's clash with Port Vale.
Darius Henderson, David Mooney and Kevin Lisbie consigned Latics to their first defeat in 11 games on Saturday and Wright expects the players to respond to that defeat.The number two faced the press ahead of the game and gave an honest assessment of the Oldham Athletic side at the moment.
He said: "Any fan of any team will want their team to win every week but it's August; nothing is won and nothing is lost in August. We need to improve in certain aspects of our game.
"We look weak at set plays at the moment and we have periods in possession where we look really good but there are other periods where we look vulnerable, so we need to get that in-between stage.
"Last year we had that in-between stage because we were disciplined, organised and hard to beat but we weren't attractive to watch, which is what we've tried to change this year. We haven't got the balance right yet this season and we need to get that right."
Port Vale are the visitors to SportsDirect.com Park tomorrow night and Wright is expecting a tough game against a strong side.
"They have started very well and Micky Adams has made them well disciplined. They have a structure of how they play and they stick to it. They are a strong physical team but if we play like we can, we could cause them huge problems," commented the 48-year-old.
"They have strikers on form at the moment but if we play like we did in the first half for 75/80 minutes then it's a game we can win."
With this the fourth game in ten days, the assistant manager hinted that changes could be made to the squad ahead of the game.
"We are waiting on Brian Wilson because he had a bit of a sore groin on Saturday so we will have to assess him. If he's fit, he will come back into the equation," said the former winger.
"Sometimes some players struggle in the early parts of the season and then come good. We've got faith in the players we have and they have to show it a bit more out on the pitch."
