Ryan Ellison smashed a late penalty to seal an away victory for Latics' youth team against Shrewsbury Town.
Jordache Walters and Devante Jacobs grabbed the first half goals to seal Latics' first victory of the season.Oldham Athletic were punished in the first minute of the game when a cross into the box found Tom King who powered home to give the home side an early lead.
Latics responded well and equalised on 15 minute with a goal from second-year scholar Walters. He turned on the edge of the box and struck past the helpless goalkeeper making the scores 1-1.
That lead did not last long as Shrewsbury regained their one goal advantage. After a flowing move, Kaiman Anderson rolled the ball into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead for the second time in the game.
Just before half time, Latics equalised for the second time in the game through Jacobs. The attacker picked the ball up outside the box and fired at goal which beat the goalkeeper and sent the sides into the break all square.
With both sides having chances to win the game in the second half, Latics were awarded a penalty five minutes from time after a Shrewsbury defender had fouled Jake Hargreaves in the area.
Ellison stepped up and rifled the ball into the bottom corner to win the game for the youngsters.
Youth team manager, Tony Philliskirk explained why he was happy to come away with the points on Saturday.
He said: "We turned up at Shrewsbury with no kit, which was probably my fault, and the kick off was moved back by an hour and a half so it was not the ideal preparation, which probably showed why we went behind in the opening minutes of the game.
"Saying that, we showed great character to grind out the result. It was a great result but we were not happy with the way we played. We were defensively poor at half time and it was 2-2 but it could have been 5-5.
"We look good going foward but we look vulnerable at the back. We were a lot more solid in the second half and we finished the game really strongly so looking back, I was happy to come back with the three points to get us our first win of the season."
