Latics boss Lee Johnson was in high spirits during his pre-match press conference after seeing his side record three straight victories and three clean sheets.
With victory over Doncaster Rovers to seal Latics' first victory of the season, his side have progressed through to the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and inflicted defeat on Fleetwood Town, who suffered their first loss of the season.After a slow opening to the season, Johnson openly admitted he was disappointed with the start but was never in doubt that his side could turn around their form.
He said: "I felt the run was coming. I was disappointed with some of the reactions against Preston because I felt it was blown out of proportion. We went to a good side and dominated so I thought it was good to finally show what we were about against Doncaster.
"We ground out a result against Bradford and I thought we were convincing without the scoreline against Fleetwood. Football is full of ups and downs. We are reliant on a number of players at this football club and we have to keep them up with fitness, confidence and moral."
Gillingham, who sit 17th in Sky Bet League One, are the visitors to SportsDirect.com Park on Saturday and the manager was full of praise for his opposition number.
"I really like Peter Taylor as a man and a manager. He's a good guy whose football knowledge is very good. He sets his team up well and they are very organised. I was at their last game against Coventry that was live on Sky Sports," the gaffer commented.
"They should have come away with at least a point, if not three, and they dealt with the occasion very well. I've seen them play Yeovil twice this season and they've won both of their games. They are a good team and they are going to be a tough team to break down."
Jonathan Forte notched his fifth goal of this season's campaign last week but was substituted on the hour mark with an injury but the 33-year-old is hopeful the forward will be available for selection.
"He's responded well to treatment but we've got to see with him really. He is still 50/50 to play on Saturday and we are quite positive about him," stated Johnson.
"It's got to come from the player as to whether he thinks he is fit enough. We don't want to lose him for a long period of time so we will take the guidance from him. He's been scanned and it's best case scenario which is good."
In more long term news, Adam Lockwood is continuing his rehabilitation from a one-off injury which has seen him miss all the season thus far.
"Adam is three or four weeks away from returning to training. It's an injury that is rarely done on a football field so we've had to take guidance from other sports," said Johnson. "We need to give him a lot of time so it will be about a 10/12 week time scale. He's not had any set backs so far so it's going well."
