Wilkinson Looking To Prove Himself

14 September 2014

New loan signing Conor Wilkinson is hoping to hit the ground running with Oldham Athletic after making his debut in yesterday's 0-0 draw with Gillingham.

The 19-year-old replaced Danny Philliskirk on the hour mark and felt Latics deserved all three points.

He said: "We should have scored a few goals at least. We created lots of chances but on another day we could have won by three or four.

"On a personal front, I thought I did alright when I came on and maybe should have scored but I was happy to make my debut and hope to impress during my time here."

Wilkinson signed on a one-month youth loan on Friday and manager Lee Johnson has told the player to express himself during his spell with the club.

"The gaffer told me on the day I signed that I would have been in the squad and I would have played.

"It's a massive test for me as it's my first League One loan so the manager has told me to prove myself," commented Wilkinson.

"The manager must have been impressed with me in midweek so I'm glad I'm here and I want to get going."

The forward has outlined his plans for the club and hinted at staying beyond his initial month.

"I'm going to play my best. I want to keep the team happy and then hopefully make the fans happy by scoring a few goals for the club," said the Bolton loanee.

"This is a great club. The stadium is nice, the staff are nice and the fans are nice too so I'm hoping I can impress them and hopefully extend the loan."
