Johnson Disappointed Not To Grab All Three Points

5 October 2014

A point away to high-flying Peterborough United would be regarded as a good result but Lee Johnson was left disappointed, feeling his side could have grabbed all three.

Jonathan Forte got Oldham Athletic off to a dream start as he neatly tapped home from six yards to give the visitors the lead in the opening six minutes.

Peterborough hit back ten minutes later through Michael Bostwick and took the lead in the second half through a stunning 30-yard free kick from Marcus Maddison.

Latics did find an equaliser on 66 minutes through Genserix Kusunga's first goal of the season and both sides did have chances to win the game but were foiled.

Speaking about the performance, the manager believed his side could have grabbed the victory.

He said: "It was a good point today. I don't think we were at our best and we looked leggy in my opinion.  It was important that we came here and retained the unbeaten run and I'm pleased with that.

"I was disappointed we didn't win because I wanted us to be more in touch with the playoffs but we have got to keep plugging away. Partnerships are still being built in the squad and it will only get better.

"I thought we had three or four good spells in the game. The first 10 minutes was good and then they had a patch of good pressure. It was a difficult game for both sides.

"We came out with a point but it could have gone either way but it is a good sign because even when we aren't at our best, we are picking up points. Sometimes last year we was at our best but losing so this is a good trait to have."

Johnson was forced to reshuffle his side as injuries took their toll on the team. "Joe Mills was out the game today through a bug but Connor Brown came in and did really well," the boss commented.

"He played like he had not been out the team for so long but Mills should be back for Tuesday's game."

The 33-year-old reserved special praise for the 361 Latics supporters that made the trip to Peterborough yesterday, saying: "The fans were fantastic again today. They never stopped singing and I'm sure they will go home reasonably pleased the teams performance."
