Clarke To Add Experience To Defence

20 July 2016

Central defender Peter Clarke believes he can add valuable experience to the back line after signing from Bury on a one-year contract.

Clarke has played over 600 career games and has played in the Championship for Blackpool and Huddersfield Town.

At 34 years old, he is an elder statesman of the squad and will add vital experience to the defence.

He said: “I’ve seen one or two things along the way in my career. I’ve got a bit of experience to fall back on and hopefully that can help one or two of the younger players in the squad as well so I’ve been around the block.

“I know what I can do, what I can’t do and hopefully the fans are pleased with what I can do and judge me when they’ve seen me play.”

Whilst the move seemed to have happened quickly, Clarke admitted it had been an ongoing thing during the summer.

“Over the summer I heard of the interest from Oldham and it became clear that they became serious about doing something so I was only too eager to come across here and meet the new manager and get started with things,” he stated.

“I know plenty about the place and I’ve played here on plenty of occasions down the years.”

Clarke enjoyed his first training session with the players before playing 75 minutes of last night’s game against Preston North End.

“There is plenty of new bodies in the building but we’ve had time on the training pitch which has been thoroughly enjoyable and you see glimpses of players and their abilities so we have the makings of a good group of players here,” he said.
