Dunne Settled Well Into Life At Oldham Athletic

23 August 2016

Full back Charles Dunne has settled well into life at SportsDirect.com Park and is looking forward to tonight’s EFL Cup second round tie against Preston North End.

The former Blackpool defender found himself without a club over the summer after opting to leave the Seasiders.

Since then, Dunne had been working in the gym over the summer but was offered a trial with Latics earlier this month.

After impressing in that game, the full back earned a short-term contract with the club and has excelled in the first team.

He said: "It’s quite crazy. That’s how football can be, though. One minute you could be at the bottom and the next you can be doing well in the team, and that’s what I’ve done.

“Everyone has been nice and friendly since I arrived so I was welcomed straight away.

"I know Clarkey, the captain, from our time at Blackpool so it was good, and there is younger boys as well and I’ve got a lot in common with them.”

Whilst welcomed by his teammates, Dunne had strong praise for manager Stephen Robinson.

“The manager has been better than what I’ve had in the past,” he admitted.

“He communicates well, talks to his players and looks after his players as well so it’s all good at the moment."

Latics travel to Preston North End tonight eyeing a spot in the third round of the competition.

“I’ve never played at Deepdale before but I know Preston, they are going to be a good team,” Dunne said.

“They are a league above us so they will be good outfit and it will be a good test for us."
