INTRODUCING: Bristol Rovers

28 June 2016

In this feature, we take an in-depth look at the teams new to Sky Bet League One this season.

Bristol Rovers

Nickname:
The Gas

Founded:
1883

Ground:
Memorial Stadium

Capacity:
11,916

League position last season:
3rd - Sky Bet League Two

2014/15 top goalscorer:
Matty Taylor (27)

Manager:
Darrell Clarke - The 38-year-old has masterminded back to back promotions after suffering relegation to the National League in the 2013/14 season.

Clarke guided his team to promotion from the National League in 2015 after a win against Grimsby Town in the final of the play offs.

Clarke, who played Mansfield Town and Hartlepool United as a player, recruited well during last summer and that squad helped him produce back-to-back promotions.

They finished third ahead of Accrington Stanley, following a last day win against Dagenham and Redbridge.

Due to his success with Bristol Rovers, the 38-year-old has attracted interest from higher clubs.

Championship side Leeds made an approach for Clarke but he opted to stay with Gas and sign a new three year contract.

Clarke will be hoping to build on last season’s success and take the side into the Sky Bet Championship next year.

Key player:
Matty Taylor - The striker notched 27 goals last season which helped secure Bristol Rovers a third-placed finish and earn them promotion.

His form kicked on towards the end of the season scoring 13 goals in the last 14 games to book their place in Sky Bet League One this season.

Taylor averages one goal every two games after netting 45 goals in 91 appearances.

Head-to-head:
The history books show that Latics and Bristol Rovers have faced each other 56 times.

Oldham Athletic have beaten Rovers 19 times, whilst losing on 23 occasions.

Sky Bet League One odds:
Win outright: 25/1
Promotion: 8/1
Relegation: 7/1
