J D Williams Team Of The Week

22 October 2016

Oldham Athletic Community Trust would like to welcome Royton Town Tigers to SportsDirect.com Park, who are the J D Williams Team Of The Week for this afternoon’s fixture against Bristol Rovers.

Here is a little more information about the team:

Established in May 2014 Royton Town Tigers was the initial brain child of Royton locals Chris Mason and Phil Haigh.

The club was started with Chris looking to find a team for his 2 children Amalee and Leo and an informal meeting was held. From there the Royton Town Tigers seed was planted and it wasn’t long before a team of former and present Royton Town FC players decided to collaborate to put on sessions for interested junior ages.

After persevering through the first initial sessions it wasn’t long until word quickly spread of a new team looking for players either possibly looking for their first junior team or fancying a fresh start. From July 2014 onwards the turnout gradually increased to the point later in the year where a decision was made to split into 3 teams in order to supplement the ages in each within the overall group.

This led the club to enter the teams to experience their first taste of games within the Curzon Ashton Summer League which was a roaring success both on and off the pitch for the players, parents and coaches.

‘The Tigers’ have since gone on from strength to strength which now boasts 3 strong teams with a core of original playing members which range from under 7 to Under 9 all playing within the Heywood Sports Village Mini League every Sunday.

It is also FA affiliated with the open age club Royton Town FC with the intentional future path of developing the players to move up through the ages and eventually become part of the successful open age team which currently plays in the Manchester Premier League.

The club has a permanent training slot on Oldham Academy North every Thursday 5:30pm – 6:30pm with coaching for the following teams:
Under 7: Ian Hulme & Carl Caffery
Under 8: Jamie Peers, Lee Forsyth & Gareth Thompson
Under 9: Chris Mason & Phil Haigh

A special mention to our local sponsors who have shown great support from the very start and continue help the club grow and develop.
Lima Training – Gavin McAndrew
Cartridge World – Guy Sedgwick
GJ Powder Coating – Chris Farrand

If you would like to support or be involved some way with our continuously growing club please feel free to contact our club secretary Phil Haigh on philhaigh9@hotmail.co.uk.

The under 8’s team are in their 2nd season together and were initially made up of an Oranges and Blacks to ensure enough game for everyone with it being a 5 a side format. This has since been merged into one team which not only makes the group collectively stronger but also plans for the future as the format increases to 7 a side next season.

The squad ethos is based on positive play, working hard and always helping each other which are all evident in each game we play. I have no doubt that this group of players will grow into a formidable team in the future if they continue to improve at the rate they have done over the 18 months I have been involved with them.

The under 8’s squad at today’s game is made up of:

Logan Jackman, Daniel Fletcher, Alex Wild, Sam Middleton, Tyler Forsyth, Jack Miller, Jackson Morris, Jude Bailey, Brooklyn Carrigan, Harry Carver, Zak Searle

A special mention to Sam, Jude and Zak who are hardcore Latics fans and travel to home and away games with their parents!
