Latics Draw In Behind Closed Doors Friendly

14 September 2016

Oldham Athletic drew 1-1 with Rochdale in a friendly at the club’s Chapel Road training ground this afternoon.

Both teams fielded a strong starting line up but it would be Athletic who went in front just before the break.

Brendy Glackin tapped Latics into a first half lead after great work from Ryan McLaughlin on the left.

The winger turned his man inside the penalty area and delivered a low ball into the centre for Glackin to finish from close range.

However, Rochdale hit back in the final 10 minutes of the game as Niall Canavan headed home a corner at the front post to seal the draw.

Speaking after the game, assistant boss Ian Baraclough said: “It was a much needed run out for some of the first team players who haven’t featured much this season.

“Nine or 10 of them had a very good run out and it was a beneficial experience. All the younger players have got to get used to working with the pros as well and they are all growing in confidence.

“This sort of exercise can enforce the manager’s thinking on certain players or puts one or two closer to the first team. The game is an opportunity for the player to put themselves into the manager’s mind for Saturday.

“It’s a lot better exercise than just training all the time and it was played in the right manner. It was a hot day but for fitness wise it was an excellent run out.”

First half team: Kettings, Dummigan, Wilson, Stott, Reckord, Jahraldo-Martin, Woodland, Winchester, McLaughlin, Ladapo, Glackin.

Second half team: Kettings, Leonard, King, Stott, Fallon, Jahraldo-Martin, Woodland, Winchester, McLaughlin, Kay, Knight.
