Erwin Enjoying Role Upfront

16 April 2017

Lee Erwin continued his fine goalscoring form when he smashed the ball over the line against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has now scored six goals in his last eight games.

Speaking to Latics PlayerHD after the game, he said: “It’s just the licence of playing upfront.”

“Not so much being lazy but just focusing on being an actual striker rather than doing a lot of defensive duties which I was doing before but credit to the way we’re playing.”

Latics were down to ten men for almost half an hour of the game after Michael Ngoo was given a second yellow card and was sent off.

Instead of changing the formation, manager John Sheridan stuck with two players upfront.

A decision that Erwin believes payed off: “Credit to the gaffer, he’s stuck Tope [Obadeyi] upfront, still attacking for the last half an hour and the boys have done a good job keeping it solid, we played well.”

Next up, it’s Bristol Rovers away and the forward will be looking to get on the scoresheet to make it three consecutive games with a goal to his name.
