Philliskirk Reacts To Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup Defeat

30 November 2016

Manager Tony Philliskirk was disappointed to bow out of the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup at the quarter final stage.

Brad Kay gave the young Latics the lead yesterday but three goals from Bury saw them progress through to the semi-final stage.

Following the game, Philliskirk said: “I can’t be too critical of the boys, I thought we worked very hard but there were key moments in the game which we didn’t go our way.

“The big one was that when we took the lead, we didn’t hold on to it for very long. The game started evenly, but we looked threatening on the counter attack.

“We got the goal off a set piece but then we shot ourselves in the foot because we were 2-1 down at half down due to two poor individual errors. We had chances but we just didn’t take them.

“Chinedu Uche, Ned Dry and Brad Kay all had chances but didn’t put them away and then when we pressed, Bury counter attacked and they made it 3-1 so it was a disappointing result."
