Stott Delighted To Be Given First Team Opportunity

24 April 2017

It’s been a whirlwind 10 days for young defender Jamie Stott.

After being recalled from his loan spell at Curzon Ashton earlier this month, Stott fulfilled one of his life dreams as he made his professional debut for Latics, a team who has been associated with since the age of eight.

Coming through the youth ranks, Stott made his debut in the 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers last week, before facing Bristol Rovers and local rivals Rochdale on Saturday.

Speaking about weekend’s game, the youngster said: “I didn’t think I had the best of games to be fair but it’s important for the club to stay up.

"Everyone has been brilliant over the course of the season. These last three games have been extra special for me.

“I thought the first goal was my fault but to get the assist for the equaliser was brilliant for me and we needed it.

“From where we came from since Christmas and since the gaffer has come in we’ve done incredibly well.

“Our home form has been really good and it’s a huge weight off our shoulders that we’re finally safe.

“To play in front of the fans is a great achievement for me and my family.

"The fans are great and have supported the team through the season but it’s great for them to finally get over the line.”

Looking ahead to next season, Stott believes the foundations are in place to push further up the table.

“There is a lot to look forward to next season,” he commented.

"You’ve got players on big deals so everyone is looking forward to next season. We will rest and recover over the summer and then we will go again next season.”
