Youth Team Beaten At The Weekend

19 September 2016

Oldham Athletic youth team were beaten 0-2 against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Two goals in the first half sealed the win for the Millers and youth team boss Tony Philliskirk pulled no punches in his post match assessment.

He said: “For the first time this season, even though we’ve lost games prior to Saturday, I was very critical of the team.

“We were well below standard in the first half and we continued to make bad mistakes at the back. At the other end, we just can’t score at the moment.

“We are just not doing it in both boxes and that’s where the problems are lying.

“The positives from Saturday are that Ryan Scholes came on second half and was probably the best player on the pitch. Another under 16 player Wesley Wolf came on second half and was a positive as well.

“The current crop of lads have got to take a long hard look at themselves after Saturday’s performance. When the best two players are schoolboys then they need to reflect on that and do better.

“We are so disappointed because we worked so well all week in training and they didn’t implement it in the game. I have asked a lot of questions of the players after the game so it will be interesting going forward.”
