New-signing Cliff Byrne will make his debut as Latics head to the Fylde coast tonight for their latest friendly against Fleetwood Town (7.30pm).
Manager Paul Dickov says the 30-year-old defender will feature for 45 minutes.
The Cod Army, recently promoted to the Football League, will be a far different side to the one Latics played 12 months ago.
Manager Micky Mellon has made nine summer signings including strikers David Ball, who has cost a reported £150,000, and Jon Parkin.
Fleetwood made the national news this week after allowing Joey Barton to train with them while he serves a 12-match ban with QPR.
Dickov says the game will mark an important watershed in their preparations for the new campaign.
He explained: "This game and the ones against Manchester City and Huddersfield Town will be about building up the lads to playing 90 minutes.
"Tonight more will play 60/70 minutes and a few will get the whole game."
Dickov will use his core of 20 contracted professionals but added a couple of the trialists will also get a run out.
Admission prices tonight are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
