Latics came through their toughest pre-season challenge so far with flying colours as they defeated Manchester City 2-1 in tonight's friendly at Boundary Park.
It was a performance which delighted manager Paul Dickov as Latics faced a side containing six of their Euro 2012 stars.
Dickov won't be getting carried away, however, saying his side must replicate the form when the action kicks off for real a week on Monday.
He said: "City showed us a lot of respect when you look at their starting line up.
"It was a good workout for the lads and our toughest pre-season game by far.
"We had to play a different type of game hitting them on the break.
"We have to remember it is only a pre-season game and results don't count at this stage.
"It is nice to win and I want us to get into the habit of winning and it becomes natural."
Dickov has one final friendly as Huddersfield Town visit Boundary Park on Saturday.
"They are a Championship side so it will be another tough game, but another win won't go amiss," he said.
