Cassidy: "It's The Right Move For Me."

2 July 2015

Striker Jake Cassidy believes he can regain his confidence and fire Latics into a commanding position next season.

The 22-year-old, who officially penned a two-year deal with the club yesterday, admitted it had been a tough start to his football career but is focused on succeeding with Athletic.

He said: "It's the right move for me. I had other offers around the Football League but this one was the best for me and my career.

"Under this gaffer now I feel I can regain confidence and get back to playing my best football."

After spells on loan with Tranmere Rovers, Notts County and Southend United, Cassidy is now looking to settle and spoke about his game.

"I'm not the type of player that is going to run, do step overs and beat three or four players but I like to think I'm an old-fashioned centre forward," he admitted.

"I enjoy the physicality of the game and the hard work. I pride myself on working hard until the last minute of the game so hopefully I can do that here, bring the midfielders into play and score some goals."

With training now in full flow after the off-season, Cassidy is excited to start working with his teammates. "It's been an enjoyable first couple of days," he said.

"It's been very warm but it's just been nice to get in, meet the lads and get to grips with the place and the staff. It's fun having the hard work. I know it's not nice at the time but you feel better for it afterwards."
