Dunn Disappointed With Manner Of Defeat

11 October 2015

Manager David Dunn was disappointed with the manner of yesterday’s defeat to Scunthorpe United after last week’s promising performance away to Gillingham.

The gaffer, who lost his first game in charge of the club yesterday, saw his side fall behind in the opening 10 minutes of the game.

However, two quick goals from captain Liam Kelly and Dominic Poleon turned the game on its head.

The visitors equalised to make the scores level at the break before two second half goals sealed the win for Scunthorpe.

After the game, Dunn summed up his thoughts: “We were beaten by a team who competed more, won more second balls than us and at the start of the game we knew what we had to do.

"We knew it would be a battle and there were players out there that didn’t win that. That’s extremely disappointing after last week when we dominated their players.

"I was disappointed with the manner of our performance and the way we went about it. It’s hard to take too many positives out of the game.

"I’ve said all along I’m a positive person but sometimes it is very difficult to take anything out of that game. We went one down and bounced back pretty well and took the lead. The game management has got to be better and there is a lot to work on.

“We will keep on going, though. This is the first little blip since I’ve been in charge. The progression has been very good so far and it’s important we don’t get too downbeat about it and we keep doing what has worked for us in the last few weeks.

Dunn is now expecting a reaction from his players against Sheffield United next weekend. “You are going to have performances throughout the season which aren’t good enough.

"It’s up to us to react and bounce back and hopefully be accountable for it. We’ll hold our hands up. There are players in the dressing room who will be disappointed with their own performance. What I have to do is pick 11 players who will do well next week.

“It’s another big game for us and I expect a very good reaction after that performance today.”
