Holden: "It Was A Disappointing Result."

29 March 2015

First team manager Dean Holden was disappointed with his sides second half performance as Latics fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Two Billy Clarke goals were enough to seal victory for Phil Parkinson's men but Latics boss Holden felt his side were slightly sluggish after the half time interval.

He said: "I think in the first half we were the better team and had the better chances. We were well in the game but we didn't come out in the second half with as much zest.

"With the last week that we have had and the pitch we have played on today, it has probably taken it out of one or two of the lads.

"It's difficult to be too critical because we've had a good week overall but in the position we were in at half time, we thought a draw was the worst result we would get but it wasn't to be.

"Bradford make it difficult for you and you have to defend for your lives and we did that for most of the game. They have got the second goal at the end of the game when we've changed the system and gone three at the back and tried to force the issue but we were caught out. Overall it was a disappointing result."

The 1,170 Latics fans in attendance yesterday drew praise from Bradford supporters as they sang on 56 minutes to mark the Valley Parade disaster and Holden thanked them for their support.

"They were fantastic," he admitted. "Even at the end, the fans clapped them off and the players appreciate that.

"What we have to do is take the bumps that we have had on the chin today, pick ourselves up and we go again on Good Friday."

Bristol City and Crawley Town await Latics next weekend. "It's two games in three days next week so people will be bored of me saying it now but it's about the recovery.

"We have got a few days to recover before we get going again at the end of next week and leading up tactically into the game with Bristol City.

"Hopefully we will have a few back for that game because as you can see today, it might have taken its toll on a few on such a difficult pitch."
