Oldham Athletic Football Club are saddened to learn of the death of former winger Ian Towers.
Ian passed away over the weekend in South Africa, aged 74.
The Blackhill-born winger made a total of 94 (1) appearances for the club between 1966-1968 scoring 45 goals.
Ian joined the club from Burnley on New Year's day 1966 making his debut against Shrewsbury Town in a 0-1 defeat.
He went on to score twice in his next game at Oxford in a 3-3 draw going on to score 27 goals to keep Latics in Division Three.
Towers scored a brace in the 1967 final of the Lancashire Senior Cup, before he joined Bury in 1968 and, later in life, emigrated to South Africa to begin a new career.
Ian leaves wife Pat, two sons and daughters and everyone at Oldham Athletic Football Club pass on their deepest condolences on their sad loss.
