Kelly: "I'm Delighted With The Desire & Commitment Of The Players."

1 July 2015

Manager Darren Kelly believes the first couple of days training have been successful and is asking for more of the same from his players.

The gaffer, who has eagerly been waiting for the players to return since his appointment in early May, has overseen the last two days of training involving testing at the University of Bolton and ball work at the club's training ground.

Speaking about the two days, he said: "It's gone very well. We were able to get the players out on the training ground after a day of testing [on Monday].

"I'm delighted with their desire and commitment of the players on the first day coming back. You try and gently ease them in and build it up as you go along but credit to them because they have come back and worked their socks off."

Yesterday saw the players get the footballs out for the first time since last season and the manager explained what happened throughout the day.

"We started with a warm up. Within that warm up, Craig the physio incorporated injury prevention stuff to make sure the players don't pick up any muscular injuries.

"They then came in and did a bit of ball work with me to get a feel for the ball but with multi-directional movements," he continued.

"After that we went into passing and skill exercises where they got a feeling for the ball because at the end of the day that is what we are working towards. We did 20 minutes on that because we need to get some quality on the ball.

"We then went on to a possession based exercise full of tempo and hard work. In these types of conditions, you have to monitor the players and make sure the players don't dehydrate.

"We finished with a game so the players have come back and they have been buzzing and working on the training ground is what it's all about. I'm a big believer in you train how you play. You train, work hard and you take that into the game."

With preparations all in place, Kelly explained what the players can expect to do in the next couple of weeks.

"It's a similar type of thing for the rest of the week. The last thing I want to do is go in very hard, especially in the warm conditions so we will build it up as we go along.

"We got to Cleggs gym to do the strength and conditioning, circuits and boxing training. We do all this to make sure they are ready for the first game of the season," he said.
