Kelly To Give Players More Game Time In Final Pre-Season Games

27 July 2015

Manager Darren Kelly will start to give players more game time in the final two pre-season games as he prepares for the start of the League One campaign.

In a game full of substitutions, two second half goals secured Rovers the victory but asked whether he would start to give more game time to players, Kelly responded: "It's getting that way now.

"In two weeks time I have to pick a team so you will start to see that filter out now. That's the good headache of things. When players come in, they are giving you food for thought by wanting to be in my first 11 and that's what you want.

"We have a big squad and we have to give everyone game time. The good thing about us is that we have a fully fit squad at the moment. We have a lot of quality players and I have a strong 11 so I have to play players in different positions."

The manager did single out the first half of Saturday's game as a plus. "Taking the positives out of the game, especially in the first half, we were excellent," he said.

"We played with tempo and with quality and that's what it's all about before we start the season on August 8."

With just over 10 days to go until the start of the season, Kelly does still want to strengthen his squad. "I'm always on the phone and I want to make sure I get the right personnel on board," he said.

"It's no secret we need certain players in certain positions but that is something we are working hard towards."
