The Blades

1889

Bramall Lane

Manager:
Nigel Adkins - The 50-year-old took over the reigns at Sheffield United this summer after the departure of Nigel Clough.

The former Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading manager joins a Blades side tipped for promotion to Sky Bet League One next season.

After a relatively quiet playing career, he joined Scunthorpe initially as a physio after graduating from the University of Salford.

He took over as caretaker manager at Scunthorpe in 2006 after Brian Laws departed the club and was appointed permanent boss just before Christmas.

Adkins guided the Iron into the Championship and earned the club good money with the sales of Billy Sharp and Andrew Keogh.

After four years with them, he moved to then-League One side Southampton.

There he won back-to-back promotions to the Premier League and stabilised the club before they moved in a different direction with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino in 2013.

Adkins spent 18 months with Reading before being sacked in December 2014 and he now takes the lead at Sheffield United.

Key player:
Jamie Murphy - The 25-year-old started his career in Scotland with Motherwell, where he made over 175 appearances.

A product of their youth academy, Murphy notched 34 goals for Motherwell including goals in Europe.

Murphy joined the Blades in January 2013 for an undisclosed fee and has gone on to score 17 goals in just under 100 appearances.

Capped at Scotland under 21 level, Sheffield United will look to their number nine to fire them into the Championship next season.
