MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic v Blackburn Rovers

24 July 2015

Oldham Athletic will host Championship side Blackburn Rovers at SportsDirect.com Park tomorrow afternoon (3pm kick off).

Darren Kelly's men host their second Championship opposition in the space of four days as Blackburn Rovers are the visitors.

After last week's training camp in Scotland, the lads returned to action at SportsDirect.com Park on Tuesday night but were beaten 0-2 by Bolton Wanderers.

That was their first official defeat this pre-season, having beaten Chester City and Stirling Albion earlier in the campaign.

Mike Jones and Jonathan Forte played their first minutes of pre-season in the defeat to Bolton and Jones is expected to play the first half tomorrow.

He said: "The injury is alright. It is definitely better than last year. I had it throughout last season and it was tough at times but it's not too painful to have to stop.

"My fitness feels great and I felt sharp the other night. I've done a lot of swimming and I feel really fit so it's just about getting the match fitness now.

"We'll be ready for the trip to Walsall. We'll kick on in the next couple of weeks and make sure we are ready for August 8."

Jake Cassidy is still expected to miss tomorrow's game with a calf problem whilst Tim Dieng could make an appearance on the bench.

One player who will play the full 90 minutes is goalkeeper David Cornell and he is excited to get started.

"We got told in the week that Joel was playing 90 minutes on Tuesday and I was playing on Saturday so I'm looking forward to playing the full game.

"Joel and I get on with each other very well and that's a good thing because we push each other. He is a good goalkeeper, it will not be easy to get the number one spot but I'm taking it day by day and we'll see how it goes," Cornell told Latics PlayerHD.

"We both know there is only one spot but I know if he has it, I'll support him, and if I have it, I'll support him."

Kelly is expected to rotate his squad throughout the game as the players get crucial match fitness behind their belt for the season ahead.
