McDonalds Continue Oldham Athletic Community Trust Partnership

13 July 2015

McDonalds have once again showed their support for Oldham Athletic Community Trust by signing up for a further season as their community football training partners.

As part of the partnership deal McDonalds will sponsor the Community Trusts range of football training, which offer high quality coaching sessions for those aged u8-u12.

Local McDonalds Operation Consultant, Chris Spence, said: "McDonalds has been a partner of Oldham Athletic's Community Development Sessions since 2012 and we are extremely proud to be able to offer them our support. Together, we have been able to offer more opportunities for the local community to enjoy and play football in a structured environment.

"McDonalds has a long heritage of supporting community football and we are extremely excited about continuing our partnership with Oldham Athletic Community Trust for the 2015/16 season. We hope that through this we can encourage better play and ultimately raise the standards of grassroots football across the region."

As part of the partnership McDonalds staff will be present at three home games during the upcoming season (Bradford City, Bury and Crewe Alexandra) in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charity, Manchester House. In total last season £1,000 was raised due to the generosity of Oldham Athletic fans.

Martin Vose, Community Trust Community Manager added: "I'm delighted to once again have McDonalds on board as Community Trust partners for the upcoming season. McDonalds are playing a major part in helping local youngster’s access high quality training for a low cost."

The community football training is spread over four nights during the week, each an hour long at a cost of only £10 per month with each session following the same objectives:

• We encourage flair and creativity and create an environment in which mistakes are seen as learning opportunities and aren't something to be afraid of.
• We strive to use of positive language, even the smallest of changes in our language can make a big difference to a child.
• We use a guide and discovery delivery style, we encourage questions and encourage the children to get to the answer themselves through demos and prompting from the coach.
• We aim not to coach from the sidelines. Sometimes the best sessions can look chaotic and messy. It doesn't matter how it looks to others as long as they are clear learning outcomes and objectives and they are being fulfilled.
• Our coaches are constantly set new challenges – for example during a small sided game add in different challenges, ways to score, odd numbers on teams etc. Always however explain why such a challenge has been put into the game.

A brand new u8s training session is due to start on Wednesday, September 9. This will be for children playing U8s football next year and will be held at Crompton House Sports Hall, 6-7pm.
