This week, we will profile the team who will run the new Oldham Event Centre.
INTRODUCING: Dave Thomson
Q: Dave, first of all, please give a brief description of your job?
A: I am the Events Sales Manager at the Oldham Event Centre. I will be looking after non-matchday event business, so everything from functions, exhibitions, events, weddings, through to corporate bookings. Ultimately I am here to drive revenue for the Event Centre.
Q: Just so we know a bit more about you, please give us your career background so far.
A: After graduating from the University of Chester in Business Management and Marketing, I have held a number of sales positions primarily in the Advertising, Sponsorship and Event Sectors. I previously worked in advertising for the Manchester Evening News before moving on to be the Events Sales Manager for Trinity Mirror North West, looking after events and sponsorship for the MEN, Liverpool Echo and Huddersfield Examiner.
Q: What are your plans for the Event Centre in the coming months?
A: For the coming months we need to promote the Event Centre as much as possible. We need to raise awareness of the facilities we have on offer, and let people know it is not just a football stand but there is going to be an opportunity to book our suites for private functions, weddings and introduce the Event Centre to the corporate market place. We have some really exciting events lined up alongside the opening, which we will be announcing in due course. Further down the line, we have our Christmas Winter Wonderland events which will give businesses and consumers the opportunity to book Christmas parties in the Event Centre, as well as places at our New Year's Eve Party and Gala Dinner.
Q: So it's exciting times ahead?
A: Very much so. The seats are currently going into the new stand and there is an air of positivity around the ground at the moment, so we look to capitalise on that and hopefully move the club forward.
Q: What are your long term goals for the Event Centre?
A: I want to make sure that over the next 12 months, the Event Centre becomes the leading event venue in the Oldham area. I believe we have a fantastic facility that has had a lot of money invested into it and we need to promote and market it in the right way. We need to make sure we drive revenues for the Event Centre and the football club, and make sure we have a successful year on and off the pitch.
