OACT Link Up With Street League

13 July 2015

Oldham Athletic Community Trust has teamed up with national charity Street League and local football team Oldham Hulmeians AFC to deliver a summer project throughout Oldham.

Street League is a national charity that works to engage with young people through football and sport to give them the opportunity to gain employment, education and training.

Oldham Athletic Community Trust have partnered up with them to deliver a programme called Prepare4More throughout Oldham in the first week of the summer holidays.

The programme itself is designed to use sport as a tool to engage with students that have just left high school and are progressing on to further education such as college and sixth form.

It aims to use group workshops and lessons both on and off the sports pitch to prepare them for the next step in their education ladder. It will focus on topics such as Time Management, Support Groups and CV writing for part time jobs.

The one day workshops could not have gone ahead had it not been for the financial support of local football Oldham Hulmeians AFC.

Dale Harris, Education Officer for Oldham Athletic Community Trust said: "It is fantastic to have a multi partnership project running through the summer. OACT teaming up with Street League can only mean positive outcomes for the young people in Oldham.

"However, without the support and backing Oldham Hulmeians have given us financially this project would not be able to go ahead. Oldham Athletic Community Trust is charity and we are always looking for local organisations and businesses to form partnerships with and this is the start of a new one with Oldham Hulmeians.

"We cannot thank them enough for their help in enabling us to engage with 5 different schools and over 100 young people in Oldham over one week in the summer holidays.

"Hopefully they will all be ready and prepared for the next step in the educational ladder and you never know some may go and play for one of the four teams Oldham Hulmeians have."

Daniel Proffitt, Progression Co-Ordinator for Street League, commented: "Street League are really looking forward to working in Partnership with the Oldham Athletic Community Trust delivering a new and innovative summer programme. We aim to give school leavers the best chance to be successful on their chosen pathway by preparing them for challenges they may encounter in higher education or on their apprenticeships."

Robert Frankland Treasury for Oldham Hulemains AFC said: "Oldham Hulmeians AFC is pleased to assist with the sponsorship of the Summer Programme. Our committee are fully supportive of the work Oldham Athletic Community Trust and Street League do in Oldham.

"We believe that anything that can help keep young people busy over the summer and help prepare them for their time at college or at work can only be of major benefit to all concerned."

Oldham Hulemains AFC are recruiting for open age players for the coming season. If anyone aged 16+ is interested then please get in touch. Hulmeians train on Wednesday’s at 18:30 at Tate St playing fields Glodwick.
