Oldham Athletic Player Visit

16 February 2015

Latics midfielder Carl Winchester visited St Anne's and Thornham St James Primary School last week to support the schools programme currently being delivered by Oldham Athletic Community Trust.

The afternoon started with a visit to St Anne’s as Carl visited pupils from two classes whilst they taking part in their PE lesson. OACT coaches have delivered sports session in the school since September so it was a fantastic opportunity for the children to show a professional footballers some of their own skills and gain some advice from an expert. In addition Carl took the opportunity to answer any questions that the youngsters had.

Carl then visited Thornham St James to visit the after-school session that OACT deliver every Thursday afternoon. The after-school club has been extremely popular all year and the children were extremely keen to meet a professional footballer and show him everything that they had learnt over the past months.

The visit was a part of the Community Trust's schools programme and was one of many visits to local schools by Oldham Athletic players this season. Per week the Community Trust's schools programme works with over 500 children in a variety of different projects and schools.

Whilst Carl was visiting children at two local primary schools, Jack Truelove spent the afternoon with pupils at Hathershaw College as he supported the school’s Sports Club Fayre which offered the schools pupils a chance to engage with a variety of different sports clubs from around Oldham.

In addition to the school visits, Oldham Athletic players were also present at the Stars In Their Eyes award ceremony which was held at The Queen Elizabeth Hall.
