Pete Wild Gives His Reaction To Youth Team Victory

5 November 2015

Although the youth team won 3-2 last night, the Oldham Athletic youth coaching staff were far from impressed with their sides performance.

Rio Murray’s double, including the winning goal, sealed their passage through to the next round of the competition but youth development phase coach Pete Wild believed the side need to be better all over the pitch.

He said: "We would like to congratulate Chester FC for their determined effort, they were certainly the better side on the evening and were a credit to their club.

"We went into the game with a lot of injuries which meant two schoolboys started but we are not using that as an excuse as with injuries comes opportunities for other players.

"We had a long and hard chat after the game and the players know that the level of performance was not acceptable last night. We know the required levels and we were way below that.

"The positives we can take away from the evening are that we are in the next round of the cup and I thought Lee Knight on the evening was a constant threat on the right-hand side.

“We now go on to face Morecambe in the next round who are tricky opposition and we will certainly have to play better than we did last night to progress in the competition.”

The full details regarding the next round of the competition will be released in due course.
